I heart my CTA

Taking the CTA is always an adventure. Some pervert was getting off on inappropriatly touching women on our crowded 147. Luckily the driver at Foster reported the creep. It is also a full body workout too, staying upright.

Went to ILA conference at Navy Pier today. ILA is kinda like Comic Con only smaller and for library nerds. It was fun though and a day off of work!

Busy busy weekend. Bachlor/Bachlorette party tomorrow. More conference Friday. D’s wedding Sat. I’ll sleep next week.

PS – digging wordpress for the iPhone.

Terrible news folks…

Bill Bailey is leaving Nevermind the Buzzcocks.  http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7623854.stm If you know me at all you know my love of this show.  Brit comedians and celebrities answer questions about pop music.  It’s kinda like Who’s Line is it Anyway where the point isn’t the game but the excuse to be funny.  Only thingis NMTB is funny.  Very funny.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nuLb-DjCxs (Yes viewing enjoyment requires working knowledge of British slang.  Urban Dictionary is helpful.  Practice with these, slag, helmet, twat)

I also appreciate that they must ply their guest with lots of booze as evidenced by Amy Winehouses appearance.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihFzr8QPfOg  Or maybe that’s just her.  Really you can see just about every episode on youtube and I hear VH1 plays them sometimes.  I’ll really miss him, he’s hilarious.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMbmWZj3uxk

In other fail news, yes I wore CkOne on purpose yesterday.  It was a sample at Macy’s and I’d thought it’d be funny in an ironic, let’s pretend we’re pre-teens again way.  I never expected quite the backlash, haters.  It was an impulse and it won’t happen again.  Maybe for Diya’s wedding but that is a special occasion and we all want to smell like a Y dance.

WooYoo!!!

Another 2 pounds!! Total of 13 lost.  I would really like to hit 20 by the end of the month.  Hopefully.  It’s going to harder with the weather getting colder and me getting busier with school work.  Like now, how I should be reading my Avery book and instead I’m pissing around on the internets.  It’s so bad, it really is the new TV.  Maybe I’ll get tired of it some day.

Oh and the car is acting up.  Yeah the one I just got from my mom.  Yeah, it’s pretty awesome.  Especially when I’m going to need it to get back and forth from the burbs next weekend for the wedding.  Bull.

Dreams in boxes…

I was searching through my papers (just papers, you know, business papers).   Really I was looking for my poetry stuff I used student teaching because I have a poetry project in a class and wanted to us some of the poems.  I found all that plus my teaching certificate.  The two year old cert that has never been used.  That one that expires in 2 years if I don’t teach with it.

I realize my goals have changed.  I changed them because I knew I didn’t want to teach then.  But I’ve never made it final.  It’s always back there that I can get a teaching job if I want.  But here is this document representing all that work and time and tears.  I put it away thinking I was being organized and keeping it safe.  It was so safe I forgot about it.

I’m halfway through the Watchmen which maybe influencing this reflective, what do it mean, our work and our jobs?  It’s dark stuff but I like it.  I don’t know how I swing from this and Stephan King to romance novels and picture books.  There’s no middle ground with me.  I’m also watching Shameless, a BBC show about this messed up Scottish family.  It’s very graphic and with people that are not nice, honest and rarely decent.  But you love them anyway.  And James McAvoy gets naked.

I am not a professional…

I worry about my future career.  I just spent a good hour, hour and a half printing Married to the Sea images and taping them to various surfaces of my co-worker’s desk.  Maybe this is why I want to work with kids and YAs.  I AM A CHILD!  Seriously I would never last in a corporate environment.

In case you don’t know Married to the Sea is a great site.  They take old images and put new text with them.  They are, naughty, in the real sense of the word.  Some swearing yes but mostly they’re mischievous.  There’s a new one each day.  This one is my fav of the moment. http://www.marriedtothesea.com/090708/european-vacation.gif

Project Runway delivered yet again.  Gave Terri and Blaine or however he spells his name the boot.  Finally.  They were okay but they were never good.  Not as good as my girls Korto and Leanne.   I think they’re going to Bryant Park and hopefully Jerell.  Joe’s not high class enough and Suede is too inconsistent.  But then what do I know about fashion?  And Michael Kors is sooo mean.  I heart him.

Have I told you all to watch The Fall.  Watch The Fall with hottie Lee Pace.  Its a great movie, he just makes it hotter.  Watch it.

Ugh…work on Saturdays.  Evil.

Hostile takeover…

Well not really since Diyaman made me a administrator.  But this blog is too good to waste so I’m commandeering it. (Int. Talk Like a Pirate Day, Sept 19th)  I was trying to get back to Xanga but I think I’ve moved beyond that and the person who wrote there.  So we’ll keep Litfromthewasteland as close to professional as I can be professional and use this one for randomness.

So I’m rocking Pandora Radio right now.  I know, late to party but I have a Brit Rock station I set up with bands I’ve been meaning to get like the Kaiser Chiefs and Bloc Party.  Yes, it’s not strictly Brit but you know, that sound.  I also have a Foo Fighters station (duh).

I’ve also entered week 7 of Weight Watchers and have lost 10 pounds.  Yeh.  I mean I’m proud and it’s not too hard, during the week.  But then the weekend comes around with it’s drinking marathons and delicious meat parties.  We’ll keep trucking along and see what develops.  I would like to lose 10% by the end of the month but that doesn’t seem likely to happen.

New semester of classes.  They’re totally different than anything I’ve done.  It’s mostly performance based stuff, storytelling, read alouds, draw and tell.  Me, they want me to draw a story.  But it pulls me out of my comfort zone, YAs, and gives me a challenge which for some reason I feel the need to do.

Speaking of challenges I applied to be a Special Events Educator Volunteer at the Planetarium.  Hoping to get more exposure to working with kids of all ages.  So I don’t have to say, two years ago when I student taught.  Because really, I’m not busy enough, full-time job, two classes, exercise, and now throw an volunteer position on the pile.  Yes!

That’s what I’m thinking about this morning.  Maybe I’ll try it again tomorrow, without the royal “we.”  I just like to pretend there are always people with me.  Makes the day go by.
